Sivarraajh sacked from MIC central working committee

Former MIC vice-president C Sivarraajh was sacked from the party's central working committee (CWC) yesterday.

When contacted, the senator confirmed the matter to Malaysiakini.

"Yes, I have been removed from the CWC. No reason was given," he said briefly.

The former Cameron Highlands MP was appointed to the CWC after he lost the party elections for the vice-president's post in 2021.

Meanwhile, a source from MIC told Malaysiakini that Sivarraajh was sacked from the CWC because he did not attend the “Madani Government: Educational Development and Future of Indians” programme held in Shah Alam last Saturday.

The programme was organised by MIC's Education Bureau in collaboration with The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) and was attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Malaysiakini has reached out to the MIC headquarters for comment.

Sivarraajh won the Cameron Highlands parliamentary vote with a 597-vote majority in the 14th general election. Still, his victory was nullified by the court in 2018 due to findings of corrupt practices in the win.

In the 15th general election, Sivarraajh was set to contest in the Padang Serai parliamentary seat, but the election was postponed after its incumbent M Karupaiya from PKR, died during campaigning.

Following the cooperation between Harapan and BN that ensued, Sivarraajh agreed to offer unconditional support for the Harapan candidate. PN eventually won the seat.

In March this year, Sivarraajh was appointed senator.
